Four Named AMCC Athlete of the Week
Penn State Behrend winter-sport athletes claimed four of the six spots for the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Athletes of the Week, announced on Monday.
ERIE, Pa. – Penn State Behrend winter-sport athletes claimed four of the six spots for the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Athletes of the Week, announced on Monday.
The Lions swept the men’s swimming and diving honors for the second time this season. Dan Simon (Harrison City, PA/Penn Trafford) was named Swimmer of the Week for being a part of four winning events that broke pool records at the Fredonia State Blue Devil Invitational. Individually, Simon won the 100 back in a pool-record time of 51.86. He joined three relays that set pool records, including the 400 medley relay where he set a NCAA “B” cut time in the lead-off backstroke (51.66). Simon also came in second in the 200 backstroke and 50 free for the Lions.
Andrew Neder (Erie, PA/Fairview) is earning his fourth Diver of the Week honors. The sophomore took third on the 1-meter board with a score of 353.25 and fourth in the 3-meter board with a score of 333.70 this weekend.
MaryEllen Spooner (Lockhaven, PA/Springfield) was named the Women’s Swimmer of the Week for winning the 100 backstroke in 1:00.43, finishing fifth in the 200 back (2:15.10) and 11th in the 50 free (26.04) over the weekend at the Fredonia State Invitational.
The Women’s Basketball Player of the Week goes to senior forward Julia Myers (Edinboro, PA/General McLane). Myers averaged a double-double in two conference wins this week. She had 18 points and 12 boards over Pitt-Bradford, before getting career highs in points (26) and rebounds (15) in the win over Pitt-Greensburg on Saturday.
