ERIE, Pa. - On Friday, February 3, the Behrend baseball coaching staff and the junior class visited the Penn State Behrend Child Care Center, located in Knowledge Park. The unusual warm winter weather provided the perfect atmosphere for kick ball and freeze tag.
"The visit was a really good experience. It was nice to have an opportunity to give back to the community and put a smile on the kids' faces," said junior infielder Matt Bittner.
Some of the players also read books to the children of the preschool one and preschool two classes.
"We wanted to give some time to the kids and today we enjoyed one of lives simplest pleasures, reading books to children. It was a great afternoon!" said head coach Paul Benim.
As a part of their annual community service, the baseball team also volunteered at Habitat for Humanity on January 14.
The Lions are set to begin their season in Fort Pierce, FL on March 4 against Ursinus. The doubleheader starts at 12 p.m.
