The Penn State Behrend men's soccer team battled to a 0-0 tie against Lebanon Valley in their first game of the Herb Lauffer Memorial Tournament. Although the game ended in a tie, Behrend did advance to tomorrow's championship game by winning a shootout 6-5.
The game was even throughout as both teams traded shots but could not find the net the entire 90 minutes of regulation play. Both overtimes were still not enough to decide a victor as the game ended in a 0-0 tie after 20 minutes of overtime play. The blue and white outshot the Dutchmen 12-8 and both goaltenders ended up with six saves a piece. Needing a team to advance to the Championship Game, a shootout occurred after regulation and overtime could not decide a winner. Five players from both teams were picked to shoot penalty kicks and all ten wound up finding the net. A sudden death shootout was next as Lebanon Valley's Brendan Steele hit the post and Behrend goalie Dustin Walker (Apollo/Kiskie) converted the kick to send the Behrend Lions to the Championship game.
The blue and white will face off against the Geneseo Blue Knights, who defeated Baldwin-Wallace 2-1 in overtime, in tomorrow's championship game at 4:00 p.m. at the Behrend Fields.
