Erie, Pa. - The Penn State Behrend men’s soccer program blew past rival Pitt-Greensburg 5-1 in conference play Saturday afternoon.
An early score by Marsial Ritchey gave the Bobcat’s (4-5-1, 1-2) a 1-0 lead at 5:05 mark which would go on to be their only point for the day. On the ensuing drive, Lions (6-1-3, 2-0) forward Jake Gamble off a ball assisted by Michael Liebdzinsk, put in his first of two goals to even the game.
Senior standout Jerry Tortella went on to break Behrend’s All-Time points record in the 29th minute of regulation with a game winner. Tortella netted the shot inside the box thanks to a great pass by long time teammate Joshua Teti giving him his 71st career point and putting the lions ahead 2-1 going into halftime.
Brian Bodnar along with Ryan Banks added to the Behrend score with goals in the second half to put Behrend up 4-1. With ten minutes left to play Gamble tallied his second goal of the night coming off a ball put in play by Raphel Bretz to end the game 5-1.
Together Lion’s goalie Chris Bolea and the Behrend defense allowed only one goal and held the Bobcats to four shots while the offense posted a remarkable +12 shots on goal margin.
Behrend men’s soccer will return to action October 6 at Case Western Reserve, kick-off is scheduled for 5 p.m.
