Behrend Defeats Mt. Aloysius; Lions Secure No. 2 Seed in AMCC Tournament
ERIE, Pa. – Four different players scored to help the Penn State Behrend men's soccer team past Mt. Aloysius 4-0 in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) action on Saturday afternoon at Mercyhurst College.
The Lions (9-6-1, -7-1 AMCC) were celebrating senior day and the fact that they secured the No. 2 seed in the upcoming AMCC Tournament with their seventh conference win.
Behrend kept the Mounties goalie, Adam Al-Habashi, busy with 37 shots on the day. He recorded 14 saves, but couldn't stop the shots of Peter Brower (Rochester, NY/McQuaid Jesuit), Danny Poljak North(Pittsburgh, PA/Upper St. Clair), Phillip Broadus (Pittsburgh, PA/Allderdice) and Eric Hackworth (Pittsburgh, PA/Shaler).
The Lions scored two goals in each half, starting with the first by Brower off an assist from Eric Vunovic (North Huntingdon, PA/Norwin) in the 27th minute. Vunovic played a ball through the defense and Brower blasted a one-touch shot into the right corner of the net.
Hackworth came off the bench to make it 2-0 at the 35:54 mark. Sean Polosky (Upper St. Clair, PA/Upper St. Clair) drove the ball in from the endline and Hackworth timed his run right to volley his shot past Al-Habashi.
The offensive pressure continued into the second half. Michael Liebdzinski (North Huntingdon, PA/Norwin) sent a ball in after a Lions' corner kick to find the head of Poljack for a 3-0 lead.
Broadus tallied an unassisted goal for the final marker in the 82nd minute.
Behrend returns to action on Wednesday against D'Youville for the final regular season game, beginning at 1 p.m.
