Penn State Behrend Lions Capture Third Straight AMCC Title

The Behrend Lions men's and women's swimming and diving teams continued its domination of the AMCC. This is the third time in as many years for the blue and white to take home the championship.  The women's team would take the championship with a score of 213 while the men would prevail with a 250 mark.

The women's team was led by Krystal Kovach (Scott Township/Chartiers Valley).  Kovach won both the one and three meter diving championships.  Kovach started the meet off by winning the three meter championship with a score of 422.8.  Kovach would then win the one meter event with a score of 405.35. Both scores are NCAA qualifying scores.  Also giving a strong effort on the women's side was Anne Lawrence (State College/State College) who would take two AMCC Championships.  The first came in the 100 yard butterfly and the second in the 200 yard backstroke.  Katie VanEpps (Pleasantville/Titusville) would also have a strong showing winning the 200 yard butterfly and placing second in the 200 and 400 IM.

The men's team was led by high-point winner Josh Weaver (Franklin/Franklin).  Weaver individually scored 43 points at the meet.  Weaver would have a great meet finishing first in the 100 yard freestyle, 200 yard freestyle, and second to teammate Dane Dombrosky (Mt. Pleasant/Mt. Pleasant) in the 500 yard freestyle event.  Weaver and Dombrosky would team with Steve Zomcik (Kersey/St. Marys)  and Ben Strunk (Cogan Station/Williamsport) to capture four AMCC relay championships.  The relay team would take the 400, 200, and 800 freestyle relay with times of 3:19.07, 1:29.28, and 7:20.88 respectively.  They would also win the 400 yard medley relay.

The blue and white will be back in the pool when they travel to the ECAC championships held in Boston, Massachusetts on February 28-March 1.  The NCAA tournament will be held on March 12-14 for the women and March 19-20 for the men.
