Behrend Track and Field Men Take First, Women Second at Westminster Invite

The Penn State Behrend men's track and field team won the Westminster Invitational on April 18, while the women finished second.  The men's team scored 252 points to run away with the title as Mount Union finished second among the seven teams with 173 points.  The women's team took second of seven teams with 128 points, while Westminster was first with 248.

For the women, Mandy Wehrle (Rossiter, PA/Punxsutawney) took first place and set a Behrend record in the 400 meter dash with a time of 59.41 seconds, while Jenna Fatica (Erie, PA/Villa Maria) also took first and set a Behrend record in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:18.76.  Both Wehrle and Fatica's times were ECAC qualifying times.

Liz Keller (Bradford, PA/Bradford) took first in the 1500 meter run (5:00.20) and the 4 x 400 meter relay team of Dana Turley (Sarver, PA/Freeport), Meghan Kronenwetter (St. Marys, PA/Elk County Catholic), Fatica, and Wehrle ran a 4:08.46 for first place and an ECAC qualifying time.

The Behrend men, who are ranked 17th in the latest USTFCCCA National Rankings, won the seven-team event.  Ronson Mazany (Ashville, NY/Panama Central) had another remarkable day in a season of outstanding performances.  Mazany swept all three jumping events, finishing first in the high jump (6' 2.75"), first in the long jump (21' 10.75"), and first in the triple jump (45' .25").  All three marks were ECAC qualifiers.

Eston Winn cleared 14' 11" to capture the pole vault event.  Earl Bass (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara Falls) won the 110 meter hurdles in 15.55 seconds, good for an ECAC qualifying time.

The 4 x 100 meter relay team of Doug Stevenson (Sharpsville/Sharpsville), Phil Stuczynski (Girard, PA/Girard), Vinnie Krawiec (Erie, PA/McDowell), and Joe O' Connor (Pittsburgh, PA/Avonworth) ran 43.79 for first place and an ECAC qualifying time.

The blue and white are off this weekend and resume competition at the Mason-Dixon Conference Championships hosted by Frostburg State on May 1-2.
