Behrend Earns Second-Place Finish At MDC Championships
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Penn State Behrend track and field team finished a program-best second place at the 2011 Mason Dixon Conference Championships being held at Christopher Newport, Friday and Saturday.
A team score of 133 points was not enough to overcome Christopher Newport (CNU) who posted 205 points and walked away with the 2011 conference title. The weekend's third-best team was Methodist (90) who took the title on the women's side.
In the 110 hurdles, Mike Stark blew past the competition recording a time of 15.13 seconds. Brian Lauff (15.44 seconds) missed second place by a hair, finishing one thousandth of a second behind Richard Roethel of CNU.
In the 400 hurdles, Cody Bupp (56.62 seconds) earned top honors, while Mike Johnson placed third (58.33 seconds).
In the long jump, Ronson Mazany scored eight big points by posting 6.72m. The senior returned in the triple jump, skipping 13.61m.
John Cerminara and John Bowman ended the championships with a pair of first and second place finishes for Behrend. First, Cerminara set new school records in the shot put (13.77m) and then was also victorious in the discus throw (41.97m). Bowman earned silver medals in the hammer (38.59m) and javelin throws (52.51m). Cerminara raked up 20 points individually for the blue and white, the fourth most of any athlete at the meet.
The top six finishers in each event received Mason Dixon All-Conference honors.
