Lions Rack Up Postseason Awards
The Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference announced the men’s and women’s cross country All-Conference selections on Friday with Penn State Behrend dominating the awards.
ERIE, Pa. – The Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) announced the men’s and women’s cross country All-Conference selections on Friday with Penn State Behrend dominating the awards.
Junior Catie Bertges (Erie, PA/Collegiate Academy) along with freshmen Danielle Stanko (Saegertown, PA/Saegertown) and Matt McWilliams (Waterford, PA/Fort LeBoeuf) all earned individual honors for their successful seasons.
Bertges was tabbed as the AMCC Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Year. She also earned a spot on the All-Conference team after placing second at the AMCC championships.
McWilliams and Stanko were named the AMCC Men’s and Women’s Co-Newcomer of the Year, respectively, after brilliant rookie seasons. Stanko placed eighth at the conference meet with McWilliams finishing in sixth place.
Head coach Greg Cooper was named the AMCC Coach of the Year for both the men’s and women’s teams. The award marks the fourth time Cooper has earned the honor for the men and the second time for the women.
Based on individual performances at the AMCC championships, seven women and eight men earned All-Conference accolades.
The Lions will be back in action on Saturday at the Mideast Regional in Newville, PA. Start time is set for 11 a.m.
