HAMBURG, NY. – The Penn State Behrend men's and women's cross country teams are searching for an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) championship this Saturday in Hamburg, New York. The men's team has won the past six AMCC titles while the women are looking for their sixth crown in the last seven years.
The men will begin the championship race at 11 a.m. and the women follow at 12 p.m.
In five races this season, the men took first-place finish at the Behrend Invitational and placed second at the Westminster Invitational. They also have a fourth-place finish at the Houghton Invitational, sixth-place at the Geneseo Invitational, and 10th place finish out of 31 teams at Oberlin.
Dylan Buffington (Brookville, PA/Brookville) and Zach Wortman (St. Mary's, PA/Elk County Catholic) have both led the way in the races for Behrend. Buffington and Wortman both received Athlete of the Week honors in the AMCC this season.
Buffington led the Lions at the AMCC Championship last year with a top time of 28:09.45 for the individual championship. Behrend had eight runners finish in the Top 15, six of those finishing in the Top 10 in last year's championship race.
The women earned a first-place finish at the Behrend Invitational, third-place finish at Westminster, as well as two sixth-place finishes at Houghton and the Oberlin Invitational and a seventh-place finish at the Geneseo Invitational.
Freshman Savanna Carr (Franklin, PA / Franklin Area) has been the top finisher for Behrend in three of its five races while Riley Crissman (Bradford, PA / Bradford Area) tabbed first for the Lions in the other two races. Carr has been recognized as the AMCC Runner of the Week three times and has been named ECAC South Runner of the Week once while Crissman has been selected at AMCC Runner of the Week twice.
At the AMCC Championship last season, Crissman led the Lions with a third-place overall finish with a time of 25:55.30. The women are looking to defend their title and reclaim the crown for the third consecutive year.
