STUEBENVILLE, Ohio – Brittany Wilwohl (Erie, PA/Villa Maria) scored five of her 16 points in overtime to lead the Penn State Behrend women's basketball team past Franciscan 68-60 in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) action on Saturday.
Wilwohl also drained a three-pointer with 1:08 left in regulation to tie the game at 53-all and send the game into overtime to help the Lions (18-4, 14-3 AMCC) avoid their first ever loss to the Barons (2-14, 2-19 AMCC). Behrend went 5-for-8 in the extra period, outscoring Franciscan 15-7 for the win.
Holly Bourquin (Pittsburgh, PA/Fox Chapel) shot 70 percent from the field for a team-high 17 points and was one rebound shy of a double-double with nine.
Franciscan's Kristn Belleque went 9-for-12 from the floor, scoring a game-best 21 points.
The Barons came out of the locker room with a vengeance, going on a 21-4 run in the first 11:16 of the second half to take their first lead since the opening minutes of the game at 45-41. The hosts lead grew to seven with 4:07 to play, but Behrend scored the next 9 out of 11 points to force overtime.
Wilwohl got the Lions off to a good start with the first two buckets in overtime. A three-pointer by Belleque made it 57-56, however, Bourquin responded with two from the line. After Hannah Flanagan made a pair of free throws, Behrend went on a 6-0 run in less than a minute to secure the victory.
The Lions relinquished the lead in the first minute of the first half and that would be it until the second stanza. Ally Burke (Erie, PA/Mercyhurst Prep) netted two free throws and then completed the unconventional three for five straight points for the Behrend double-digit lead at 24-14. That advantage grew to 16 points to finish the half.
The Lions return to action on Tuesday against Nazareth in the "Play 4Kay" game. Contest begins at 7 p.m.
