ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend women's basketball team is embarking on their fifth international trip and fourth journey to Italy for a nine-day excursion to cities Venice, Florence and Rome from May 11-19.
The Lions first traveled to Italy in 2000 with return trips in 2004 and 2008. Behrend then took its first-ever trip to Brazil in 2012 before returning to Italy.
The team departed for Europe today from Pittsburgh and arrive in Venice on May 12. The Lions will get a guided tour of the historic city and its canals, before transferring to Padua for the evening.
From Padua, they spend three days in Florence where they will explore Accademia Galleria and compete in their first game against Pallacanestro Femminile Firenze. From Florence, the team moves to Rome for the final three days of the trip. They will tour the Vatican Museum and Old Rome Coliseum, while facing their second opponent, Athena Basket Roma on May 17.
