Bio

Chewning enters her second season of her second stint on the Penn State Behrend women’s basketball coaching staff.

Prior to retuning to Behrend, she spent the last four seasons as the assistant women’s basketball coach at Gannon University. Chewning worked with the post players for three years and one season with the guards. She also assisted in academic advising, strength and conditioning, recruiting, and scouting. The Golden Knights posted an unprecedented 92-31 record during her four years.

In 2009-10, Gannon finished 37-1 and ranked No. 1 in the 2010 USA Today/ESPN Top 25 Coaches Poll. Gannon won the Atlantic Region Championship, PSAC West Division and Tournament Championships, while reaching the Final Four in the NCAA Tournament.

Chewning’s other responsibilities included being the chairwoman of the “Pink Zone" promotional event. She organized and developed annual breast cancer awareness through creative marketing strategies. Her efforts raised more than $50,000 for the Erie Chapter of the American Cancer Society.

Prior to coaching at Gannon, Chewning spent two seasons as an assistant coach for the Lions under Roz Fornari. She helped Behrend post a 38-16 record, while assisting in player development, daily practice planning, on-the-floor coaching, and game preparations.

In 2006-07, she helped lead the Lions to one of their best seasons with a 21-6 overall record. Behrend advanced to the AMCC Championship game for the second straight season and hosted Moravian in the first round of the ECAC Tournament.

Before entering the coaching world, Chewning was a standout basketball student-athlete at West Virginia Wesleyan, before transferring to Edinboro University. She helped the Fighting Scots post an 18-10 mark while playing in 26 games in her senior year.

Chewning graduated from Edinboro in 2005 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. She earned an MBA from Penn State Behrend in 2007.
