Robash Leads Behrend Past Mount Union

ERIE, Pa. – Glennis Robash tallied her first two goals of the season, while Meredith Gipson and Lindsey Steinsdoerfer each scored to help the Behrend women’s soccer team defeat Mount Union 4-3 in non-conference action on Wednesday.

A total of five goals were scored in the first half, three by the Lions (3-3) with a pair by Robash. Behrend added one more goal in the second stanza to hold on for the win.  Katie Etling netted two goals for the Raiders (1-3-2) and Aubree Lieberman made six saves in the final 45 minutes of work.

The Lions started the scoring frenzy in the opening three minutes. Julia Schroeck sent a ball into Robash, who flicked the ball behind her and into the right corner of the net for the quick lead. It didn’t take long for Mount Union to get on the board and take a 2-1 lead on back-to-back goals from Etling.

In the 9^th minute, she capitalized on a point-blank shot from 10 yards out then gave the Raiders the lone lead of the game at the 19:51 mark with a very similar goal as the first.

Steinsdoerfer knotted the game at 2-all after finishing a thru ball played by Robash. Four minutes later, Robash gathered a cross from defender Sam Vasy for the one-touch shot and goal for the eventual game winner and a 3-2 advantage.

Behrend outshot Mount Union 14-4 in the second half and 23-8 overall. Gipson’s sliding shot in the 54^th minute off an assist from Kourtney Gasparovic made it 4-2.

The Raiders tried to close on in on the Lions, scoring in the 58^th minute on a goal from Deirdre Dick at 4-3. It was Dick who also hit the post with 32 seconds left to potentially send the game into overtime.

Robin Siegenthaler made her sixth start in goal and only had to record one save in the win.

Behrend returns to action on Saturday against Westminster. Game time is 1 p.m.
