ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend women's swimming and diving team broke four records and Gwendolyn Lowery (Bellefonte, PA/Bellefonte) broke two in one event on the first night of the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Championships on Wednesday at the Junker Center.
The Lions are in first place out of six teams with a total of 40 points after swimming the 800 free relay on the opening night. Alfred is in second with 39 points and Cabrini is third (36).
Lowery set a new team and AMCC record leading off the 800 freestyle relay in a time of 1:57.43 (200 freestyle). Lowery joined Jessica Wyckoff (Elma, NY/Iroquois), Maryn Horn (Houston, TX/Jersey Village) and Lacey Grinnen (Warren, PA/Warren) to break the team, Behrend pool and AMCC meet and open record for the relay by nearly seven seconds in 8:01.24.
Behrend returns to action tomorrow for the prelims on day two of the championships, beginning at 10 a.m.
