Behrend Advances to 2008 AMCC Finals After 3-0 Win Over Bradford
The Penn State Behrend (21-8) volleyball program by virtue of a 9-0 AMCC regular season earned the privilege of hosting the 2008 Championship Tournament. On Friday, November 7, the blue and white dropped Pitt-Bradford three games to none to move on to the conference finals. The first game of the evening featured the top-seeded Behrend Lions playing the fourth-seeded Pitt-Bradford Panthers (15-13) for the second time in eight days when the blue and white handled the Panthers three games to one in a very good match, 25-19, 19-25, 25-23, 25-20.
AMCC Semi-Finals Results - Friday, November 7

On Friday, November 7, the blue and white dropped Pitt-Bradford three games to none to move on to the conference finals.
The first game of the evening featured the top-seeded Behrend Lions playing the fourth-seeded Pitt-Bradford Panthers (15-13) for the second time in eight days when the blue and white handled the Panthers three games to one in a very good match, 25-19, 19-25, 25-23, 25-20.
The first two games of the semi-final on Friday wer close, but the results were very similar to last week's meeting. The Behrend Lions edged the Panthers in two close games winning 25-20 and 25-22. The blue and white then would wrap things up cruising in the third one, 25-8.
Pitt-Bradford ended its season with a 15-14 mark while the Behrend Lions improved to 22-8 on the year and advance to Saturday's Championship final at 1:00 p.m.
For the Behrend Lions, Junior Brooke Gallentine (Mt. Pleasant, PA/Southmoreland) played a marvelous semi-finals racking up 42 assists over the three games. Shelia Ogden (Grove City/Grove City) hit the ball hard Friday night, racking up 14 kills, while Carissa Johnston (Cambrige Spring/Cambridge Springs) added another 11. Stefanie Kelley (Moon Township/Moon) played excellent defense and logged 26 digs.
In the second match of the night, second-seeded Frostburg State (28-5, 8-1) defeated the third-seeded Pitt-Greensburg Bobcats (13-10, 7-2), 25-14, 25-12, 23-25, 25-15.
Behrend and Frostburg will square off for the sixth time in the AMCC Finals. Behrend and Frostburg rank one and two in AMCC kills per game, service aces, assists, and win-loss percentage.
Behrend has captured three of the past four AMCC regular season championships, winning the conference tournament title in both 2001 and 2005. Behrend advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in 2005, however Frostburg has won eight league titles in 11 seasons of AMCC championship play.
