Lions Advance to AMCC Semifinals; Defeat Mt. Aloysius

ERIE, Pa.  – The Penn State Behrend volleyball team defeated Mt. Aloysius for the second time in four days, posting the same score of 3-0 to advance to the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) semifinals this weekend.

The Lions (19-10) won 25-20, 25-18 and 25-19 to get one step closer to winning an AMCC Championship. Behrend will face No. 2 Penn State Altoona at 8 p.m. at top-seed Pitt-Bradford on Friday night.

Stephanie Kelley had a double-double with 14 kills and 14 digs. Danielle Woods also added 14 digs each, while Kelly Treser had six kills and three blocks. Chelsea Magnusen had 15 assists in the win.

The Mounties (7-17) took control to start the match. Down 3-2, Mt. Aloysius went on a 9-0 run to take a commanding 10-3 lead and force the Lions to take a time out. Four forced errors and a kill from Treser got Behrend within two and two kills from Kelley evened the score at 11-all. The Mounties took one more lead at 15-12, but the Lions would claw back win the next 10 out of 13 points, closing the game on a Jessica Woods block for a 25-20 game-one victory.

With the score tied seven times in the first nine points of game two, Behrend broke away after a Mounties time out (9-9). Kelley had eight kills in the game, including five in the final 15 points and the last one for a 2-0 lead in the match.

The third game started out much like the second. With an 8-6 lead, the Lions went on a 14-4 run to take an 11-point lead at 21-10. The next six points belonged to Mt. Aloysius thanks to three kills from Desiree Reed.  J. Woods made another block earned a defensive point and Treser’s kill made it final at 25-19.
