Trio Named AMCC Athletes of the Week
Penn State Behrend men’s basketball player Mason Blankenberg, and men’s volleyball players Joseph Sciscio and Jack Wilcox were named the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Athletes of the Week
ERIE, Pa. – Penn State Behrend men's basketball player Mason Blankenberg, and men's volleyball players Joseph Sciscio and Jack Wilcox were named the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Athletes of the Week.
Blankenberg averaged 17.0 points and 7.0 rebounds, while going 7-for-14 from three-point range in a pair of AMCC wins for the Lions. He tallied a season-best 23 points to go along with eight rebounds, three assists and a steal in the win at Pitt-Bradford. He followed that up with 11 points, seven rebounds and two assists in the victory over Carlow. For the week, he shot 52 percent from the floor and 50 percent from long range to help the Lions stay a perfect 9-0 in AMCC play.
Wilcox earned Offensive Player of the Week for men's volleyball. He led the Lions to a 2-2 week with 38 kills, 20 digs and 19 blocks along with four service aces. Wilcox had double-digit kills on Saturday in each match, knocking down 15 vs. Nichols and 11 in the win over SUNY Poly. He also added eight blocks assists vs. SUNY Poly and six digs.
Sciscio was named Defensive Player of the Week for recording 19 blocks (four solo and 15 assists) in four matches to start the season. He also added 26 kills and four digs. Against Nichols, Sciscio posted 12 kills and five block assists. Sciscio is currently tied for the lead in the AMCC with a 1.27 blocks per set average.
