Trio Named AMCC Athletes of the Week
Penn State Behrend junior baseball pitcher Colin Bolla, junior softball designated hitter and pitcher Julia Jones, and sophomore men’s tennis player Vitaliy Pikalo were named Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Athletes of the Week.
ERIE, Pa. – Penn State Behrend junior baseball pitcher Colin Bolla, junior softball designated hitter and pitcher Julia Jones, and sophomore men's tennis player Vitaliy Pikalo were named Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Athletes of the Week.
Bolla was named Pitcher of the week, recording his first collegiate no-hitter in game one for a 1-0 win over Pitt-Bradford on Saturday. The junior starter was one strikeout away from reaching his game-high, fanning 12 in the complete seven-inning game. Bolla faced 26 batters and walked five, while converting a double play in the top of the seventh to preserve the no hitter. He is the sixth pitcher in program history to accomplish this feat.
Jones was named the Player of the Week for recording 13 hits, including six doubles to go with eight RBIs while scoring eight runs in a 5-1 week for the Lions. Jones, on a six-game hitting streak, tallied multiple hits in four games. She tallied three hits in three games and registered a double in all but one. Against Pitt-Bradford, Jones was 6-for-9 with five RBIs, four runs and two doubles.
Pikalo led the Lions to a 7-0 record and the top seed in the AMCC championship tournament this past week. Pikalo went undefeated in singles action while earning six doubles wins at No. 3 doubles. He won at No. 3, 4 and 5 singles.
