Dan Dabrowski: Building a Legacy of Excellence, Service, and Impact
For Dan Dabrowski, Penn State Behrend was more than a place to compete—it was where he discovered how athletics can create lifelong connections, inspire leadership, and bring communities together around a common purpose.
For Dan Dabrowski, Penn State Behrend was more than a place to compete—it was where he discovered how athletics can create lifelong connections, inspire leadership, and bring communities together around a common purpose.
A Harborcreek native and one of the most accomplished throwers in Penn State Behrend history, Dabrowski left an indelible mark on the Lions' track and field program. His athletic achievements placed him among the elite competitors in NCAA Division III while helping elevate the national profile of Behrend track and field. During his career, he earned multiple All-America honors in the discus, became a school-record holder, and consistently ranked among the nation's top throwers. His breakthrough performances included appearances at the NCAA Division III Championships, where he finished as high as fifth nationally and earned All-America recognition. In 2025, he set both school and championship records with a discus throw of 53.32 meters at the SUNYAC Outdoor Championships.
Dabrowski's success was built on years of dedication and steady improvement. As early as his sophomore season, he was already competing among the top discus throwers in Division III, placing third at the All-Atlantic Region Championships while ranking among the nation's best.
While his accomplishments in the throwing circle are impressive, those who know Dabrowski understand that his greatest impact extends far beyond statistics and records.
At Behrend, he embraced opportunities to become involved throughout the athletics department, serving as a voice of Lions athletics through BVZ Radio and helping promote the stories and achievements of fellow student-athletes. His passion for sports administration and event operations grew alongside his athletic career, creating a foundation for his professional future.
Today, Dabrowski has translated those experiences into a career in sports and event management. As an Event Management Graduate Assistant for the University of Arkansas Athletics Department, he continues pursuing opportunities in sports business operations and event administration, applying the same organizational skills, leadership qualities, and attention to detail that fueled his success as a student-athlete.
His connection to Penn State Behrend remains strong, particularly through initiatives that use athletics as a force for good.
Perhaps no accomplishment better illustrates Dabrowski's character and commitment to the sport than the creation of the Throw Out Cancer Invitational, a meet dedicated to supporting former Fort LeBoeuf standout, former Penn State Behrend volunteer throws coach, and throwing community member Brian Milne. What began as an idea to rally the throwing community around one of its own has quickly grown into a meaningful annual event that combines elite competition with philanthropy and awareness.
Dabrowski and event organizers including former Behrend student-athletes Jadyn Danylko, Jessica Park and Antonio Faraone, have worked tirelessly to transform the event into a showcase for throwers of all ages. The invitational welcomes middle school, high school, collegiate, open, masters, and elite athletes, bringing together competitors from across the region for a day centered on both athletic excellence and community support. Many local business sponsors have generously donated to help with the operational costs. Event-entry fees are donation-based, with proceeds benefiting local families fighting cancer.
Building on the success of the inaugural meet, this year's Throw Out Cancer Invitational expanded its reach and visibility, drawing athletes to Penn State Behrend's throwing facilities while continuing to honor Milne's resilience and perseverance. The meet features competition in the shot put, discus, hammer throw, and javelin, creating opportunities for athletes at every level to compete while supporting a meaningful cause. Elite divisions highlighted some of the area's top throwers, reinforcing the event's growing reputation within the track and field community.
For Dabrowski, the meet represents the perfect intersection of his passions: track and field, event management, and community service. It also reflects the values he developed at Penn State Behrend—using athletics as a platform to bring people together and make a difference beyond competition. Through the Throw Out Cancer Invitational, he has created more than a track meet; he has established a movement that demonstrates the power of sports to support, inspire, and uplift others during life's most difficult challenges.
His influence can be seen throughout Behrend Athletics. As a student-athlete, he set standards of excellence in competition. As a campus leader, he promoted and celebrated the accomplishments of fellow Lions. As an event organizer and young professional, he continues to strengthen the connection between athletics and community impact.
For Penn State Behrend, Dabrowski's legacy is measured not only by records, medals, and All-America honors, but by the example he set for future student-athletes: compete with excellence, lead with purpose, and use athletics to make a lasting difference in the lives of others.
