The Penn State Behrend baseball team will compete on its home field for the first time this season in a single non-conference game against Alfred on Tuesday, April 9.

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend baseball team will compete on its home field for the first time this season in a single non-conference game against Alfred on Tuesday, April 9. Game time is 4 p.m. at the Behrend Baseball Complex.

* Behrend began conference play on Sunday at Mount Aloysius, splitting a doubleheader with the Mounties to move to an overall record of 11-6
* In four games last week, junior infielder Mac Ciocco (Venetia, PA/Peters Township) finished 10-for-16 at the plate for a .625 average with four doubles, a triple, five RBIs, and two stolen bases
* On Saturday at Westminster, he recorded two hits and a game-high three runs batted in. In the twinbill at Mount Aloysius, Ciocco went 6-for-9 with two doubles and two RBIs
* Freshman Jake Manendo (Erie, PA/Mercyhurst Prep) picked up the win in relief, tossing two shutout innings in game two
* Ciocco is the current AMCC leader in batting average and runs batted, while leading the Lions with a .492 average, .556 on-base percentage, 10 doubles, and 26 RBIs
* David Gibson (North East, PA/North East) is second on the team in batting average (.400) and runs batted in (18)
* Pitcher Colin Bolla (Fairview, PA/Fairview) has tallied a 1.54 ERA in 11.2 innings with a team-high 21 strikeouts, while Jeff Zick (Moon, PA/Our Lady of Sacred Heart) (four) and Manendo (two) lead the team in wins
Meet the Opposition:
* This marks the first season that Alfred competes in Division III baseball as a member of the Empire 8
* The Saxons hold an overall record of 1-18 and 0-8 in conference play, falling to Utica in a doubleheader on Sunday
* Freshman Cameron Brought leads the team with a .333 average, .429 on-base percentage, and seven doubles. Jeff Petrozzini has drove in a team-high 10 RBIs to go along with two home runs
* On the mound, Gabe Cheddie has delivered a 2.25 ERA in two appearances of relief, while starter Owen Jennings has struck out 23 batters in four starts this season
* Head coach Brian Kehew was hired in May 2023 to lead this new program after serving as the head coach at Medaille
