Susquehanna Rallies in the Ninth to Defeat Behrend Baseball in Florida

FORT PIERCE, Fla. – The Susquehanna baseball team scored six runs in the ninth inning to come back and defeat Penn State Behrend 9-5 on day one of Spring Break on Sunday in Fort Pierce, Florida.

* Down 5-4, Susquehanna scored five runs with two outs left in the top of the ninth to get the come-back win
* The Lions had a three-run lead heading into the eighth inning
* The Crusaders added a run in the eighth before exploding for a total of six runs on six hits in the ninth
* Behrend was held scoreless in the final two innings
* Reliever Chase Caricato registered the loss, giving up four runs on four hits
* Susquehanna held the lead early in the game, going ahead with two runs in the fourth on a home run
* Behrend used three hits to scored two runs in the bottom of the frame to tie it at 2-all
* David Barnes reached on a fielder's choice and David Gibson singled up the middle
* Hank Shaffer knocked in Barnes and Gibson with a single before the third out was recorded
* The Lions had four extra-base hits, two coming in the sixth to take a 3-2 lead
* Thomas Nicely doubled and scored off Gibson's double in the sixth
* Behrend added two more runs in the seventh to make it 5-2
* Silvio Ionadi tripled to second home Jacob Wessel, before Nicely drove in Ionadi with a sacrifice fly
* Junior starter Andrew Bredel (Clinton, PA/Burgettstown) tossed seven innings to go along with five hits, three earned runs, and six strikeouts
