Men's Soccer Announces Team Awards
The Penn State Behrend men’s soccer team announced their team awards Friday. The Lions had a successful season claiming the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) title and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the second straight season.
The Penn State Behrend men's soccer team announced their team awards Friday. The Lions had a successful season claiming the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) title and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the second straight season.
Jimmy Belack (Upper St. Clair, PA/Upper St. Clair) was selected as the team's MVP. Belack had a standout season and racked up ECAC South Player of the Year, AMCC Player of the Year, First-Team Great Lakes All-Region and NSCAA Scholar All-American accolades. He led the AMCC in points (48) and goals (17) and finished tied for first in assists (14). He notched seven game-winning goals and drilled all three of his penalty kick opportunities.
Earning the team's Most Improved Award, Sam McSherry (Stow, OH/Stow-Munroe Falls) started 17 games as a midfielder and notched three goals. The junior played in 21 games and was instrumental in the Lions championship run.
Matt Dziadosz (Leechburg, PA/Kiski Area) was named the team's Freshman of the Year. Dziadosz started 18 games and recorded one goal and one assist. He was a key contributor to Behrend's seventh best scoring offense in the nation.
Jay Jarrett (North Huntingdon, PA/Norwin) and Pat Johnson (Westerville, OH/Westerville South) shared the Scholarship/Leadership award. The two seniors helped lead the squad to the program's seventh AMCC Championship and won three titles in their four years in the program.
