Behrend Wrestling Overpowers Mercyhurst

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend wrestling team won seven of the 10 bouts to defeat Mercyhurst 34-13 in non-conference action on Friday night.

Noteworthy:

*  Behrend secured its second win over Mercyhurst this season, winning 42-9 earlier in the year
* The Lions earned three technical falls, two pins, one major decision and one decision victory
* Evan Whiteside got Behrend on the board with five points at 125
* Whiteside needed 3:23 for a 17-2 technical fall over Travis Browning
* The Lakers made it 5-4 with a major decision at 133
* Cole Neil (141) and Rudy Brown (149) pushed the lead to 16-5
* Neil registered a technical fall (19-4) and Brown pinned Colin Scherer in 1:53
* Behrend won the next four bouts to take the lead for good
* At 165, Mason Savitz tallied a 13-3 major decision, before Anthony Salvini used a 7-4 decision to defeat Keith Mincin at 174
* Louie DeJulia pinned Jake LeClerc at 184, while Abraham Keep had a 16-1 technical fall (3:00) to push the match to 34-9 with one bout remaining
