Laffey, Bertges Named AMCC Athletes of the Week
Freshman women’s tennis player Alexandra Laffey and senior women’s cross country runner Catie Bertges were named Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Athletes of the Week, announced on Monday.
ERIE, Pa. – Freshman women's tennis player Alexandra Laffey (Sewickley, PA/North Allegheny) and senior women's cross country runner Catie Bertges (Erie, PA/Collegiate Academy) were named Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Athletes of the Week, announced on Monday.
Laffey posted two doubles wins and one singles victory playing at the #1 spot to lead the women's tennis team to its 12th AMCC Championship. In the title match, the freshman won 6-1, 6-0 in singles and 8-3 in doubles with Chelsea Czerwinski. Laffey never lost a single conference singles match or doubles match this season.
Bertges ran a time of 23:11.1 at the Inter-Regional Rumble at Oberlin to earn top honors out of 155 runners, for her second first-place finish this season. The senior's efforts helped the women's cross country team earn a second overall in a field of 16 teams.
