Men's Soccer Awarded Top Seed for ECAC South Tournament
Penn State Behrend heard some positive news on Monday morning when the program learned it was awarded the top seed for the 2009 ECAC South Men's Soccer Tournament.
The Behrend Lions sit at 15-5-2 overall and lost 1-0 to Medaille in the AMCC Championship. They have competed in ten league finals in the 13 years of AMCC play and will be making their fourth ECAC appearance (2000, 2005, 2008).
After registering the school record for wins season, Behrend will host the eighth seeded Neumann University on Wednesday, November 11, at 12 noon at Gannon University's soccer field. Penn State Abington is the two seed and plays host to Wesley (DE), while third seeded AMCC member Penn State Atloona hosts sixth seeded Stevenson. Lebanon Valley is the four seed and hosts fifth seeded DeSales.
After Wednesday's first round, the highest remaining seed will host the semifinals on Saturday, November 14 and the finals on Sunday at times to be announced.
Offensively, the blue and white have been very good, out scoring opponents 61 to 15 on the year. Junior midfielder Lance Sabol (North Huntingdon, PA/Norwin) leads the program with 11 goals. Super sophomore Aaron Meehl (North East, PA /North East) has chipped in seven goals and forward Ryan Banks (Allison Park, PA/Hampton) has scored six. Senior Dustin Walker (Apollo/Kiski) has been tough in goal for the blue and white. Walker boasts 10 shutouts and has made 64 saves while posting a 0.64 GAA.
Last Thursday Neumann fell to Immaculata University, 2-1, in a Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) semifinal game. The Knights carry a 9-8-2 mark into the ECAC Tournament.
A year ago, Behrend entered the ECAC Tournament as the four seeded, hosted Wilkes University, but fell 2-1.
