Men's Soccer Blog From Brazil: Rainy Day and First Match

The Penn State Behrend men's soccer team is taking part in an international sports tour of Brazil from May 17-26.  The following blog was sent by Penn State Behrend men's soccer players Dave Revtai, Matt Cline, and Cory Neiderer, and is the second in a series of short updates from the team trip to South America.

Day Two: Rainy Day and First Match

Greetings from Brazil!  Everything is going well so far.  It rained early in the morning today (Wednesday) which kept us from doing activities, due to the dirt roads.  However, leave it to a bunch of college kids as they'll make their own fun.  Some of us went horseback riding, while others rode bikes into town.  Also, there were card games going on back at the resort.

Later, we put on a clinic for the local youth players in Sao Bento.  It was pretty fun as all the kids were really excited to play soccer, let alone be with Americans.  After the clinic we played our first game against some young talented locals. The result was 5-0 in favor of Behrend, Rafael Bretz scoring the first goal.  Chris Fanzorami played a good game in the net for us making some key saves to keep the shut out.  At the end of the game we won the hearts of the locals who were giving us "rock star" treatment.  They were all chanting our names and wanting photographs!

Thursday, we are hoping for no rain so we can go to the farm or possibly a local waterfall that was originally planned for Wednesday. The next team we play is a bit older and stronger.  It should be a good match with a little closer result.  We will be in touch with you all tomorrow to keep you updated, thanks for all the support back at home!
