Men's Soccer Blog From Brazil: Third Match and More Traveling
The Penn State Behrend men's soccer team is taking part in an international sports tour of Brazil from May 17-26. The following blog was sent by Penn State Behrend men's soccer players Aaron Meehl, Kyle McKinney, and Michael Liebdzinski, and is the fourth in a series of short updates from the team trip to South America.
Fourth Blog Entry: Third Match and More Traveling
This morning started out with a breakfast at the hotel followed by check out. We then traveled to Sao Jose dos Campos by bus which took approximately two and a half hours. We arrived around noon and had lunch at a food court in the local mall. The food court had a familiar feel to it as it included Subway, McDonalds, Giraffas, Japanse Take Out, Asian Express, as well as some other Brazilian food options.
At 2:30 p.m. we loaded the bus and traveled to our third and final match of the trip. In the first twenty minutes of the match we got down 2-0 because of our fatigued legs as well as our opponents' speed and quickness. Cory Neiderer answered by scoring with a great ball from Lance Sabol and Jake Gamble evened the score a few minutes later off of a turnover from the other team. Although both teams had several chances down the stretch, the our Brazilian opponents ended up winning 4-2 off of two late goals. After the game, some of the Behrend players traded shirts with the opponent.
After the game we all went out as a team to the Golden Bar, a restaurant near the hotel. It was not a late night for us though as we had a curfew of midnight since we departed early the next day for Rio de Janeiro, after breakfast in the hotel. Thanks for keeping up with us on our trip!
