Behrend Handles Bethany
BETHANY, WV - Freshman Brendan Lacey won two individual events to lead the Behrend men's swimming and diving team to 116-104 in non-conference dual-meet action on Saturday.
The Lions won 10 out of 13 events en route to their first victory of the season. Lacey won the 200 free (1:47.71) before collecting first place in the 500 free (5:00.93) nearly breaking the five-minute mark.
The team of Hunter Backentose, Peter Blazak, Jacob Sherk and Everett Sargent opened the meet with a win in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:45.77. Terrance Watterson followed with a win in the 1,000 free, clocking in 48 seconds faster than second place at 12:01.70. He also took second in the 500 free (5:48.17)
Sherk, Blazak and Sargent were also individual winners on the afternoon. Sherk touched in 23.69 for first in the 50 free, while Blazak won the 100 free in 50.93. Sargent was first in the 100 breaststroke (1:08.54) and Cody Mastowski was a close second in 1:09.47.
Diver Lucas Kachurick won the one and three-meter diving events with a score of 229.20. The final first-place finishrd of the day went to Steve Torre in the 200 IM (2:04.43) and Clay Altemose in the 100 fly (54.04)
Behrend returns to action next weekend at Baldwin-Wallace. The meet begins at 1 p.m.
