Track and Field Teams Finish Third at Mason-Dixon Conference Championships
The Penn State Behrend men's and women's track and field teams
each took third place May 1-2 at the Mason-Dixon Conference
Championships. The third place finish matched the best men's
finish ever and was a new best for the women's team. The men
earned 105 points, while Salisbury won the meet with 200. The
women earned 98 points, while Frostburg State won with 123.
In total, Behrend athletes earned a whopping 53 all-conference
selections by finishing sixth place or higher in an event at the
championships.
Andy Iams (Harrison City, PA/Penn-Trafford) dominated the 10,000
meter run, winning with a time of 33:41.55 and also earned
all-conference honors in the 5000 meter run.
Mandy Wehrle (Rossiter, PA/Punxsutawney) won the 400 meter run in
59.56 seconds and also earned all-conference honors in the 4 x 100
meter relay and the 4 x 400 meter relay.
Eston Winn (Erie, PA/McDowell) won the pole vault by clearing 14'
11" and also earned all-conference honors in the 4 x 100 meter
relay.
Katie Monoskey (Punxsutawney, PA/Punxsutawney) and John Bowman
(Clearfield, PA/Clearfield) set new Behrend records in the hammer
throw. Monosky launched it 37.46 meters, while Bowman hit a
mark of 32.85 meters.
Dana Turley (Sarver, PA/Freeport) was a new ECAC qualifier in 100
meter hurdles with a time of 16.28 seconds. The women's relay
teams in the 4 x 100 meter, 4 x 400 meter and the men's 4 x 100
relay team were also ECAC qualifiers. Bryson Hartzler
(Belleville, PA/Indian Valley) competed in the high jump and
cleared 6' 8.25" for an NCAA qualifying mark.
The track and field teams will next compete at the Allegheny
Invitational on May 8 followed by the ECAC Championships May 14-15
at Springfield College.
