Behrend Men Release Indoor Team Awards
The Penn State Behrend men’s track and field program announced its team awards for the 2011 indoor season. The four awards given are Most Valuable Player, Most Improved Player, Rookie of the Year, and the Leadership and Scholarship Award winner.
ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend men's track and field program announced its team awards for the 2011 indoor season. The four awards given are Most Valuable Player, Most Improved Player, Rookie of the Year, and the Leadership and Scholarship Award winner.
Mike Stark grabbed MVP honors after a terrific winter season. The senior broke both the Lions pole-vault record, clearing 16'3" and the 60m hurdles in which he clocked in at 8.49 seconds. The team's Most Improved award went to John Cerminara. Cerminara has shown positive strides in the shot put improving from 12.79 meters last year to hurling the 16-pound ball a season-best 13.49 meters. Denny Lydon collected his second Rookie of the Year honors by following a freshmen cross country season with a remarkable indoor track campaign.
Michael Johnson is the Leadership and Scholarship Award winner. This honor goes to the program's most outstanding athlete on and off the field. Johnson has a GPA of 3.13 and is known for his guidance while pushing the team to work harder.
