2009 Behrend Lions Cross Country Invitational Results
The Behrend Lions cross country team hosted fifteen men's and
twelve women's teams on September 19, 2009, on the Behrend
course.
Last season, the Behrend men placed second overall while the
Behrend women finished third. This year it was reversed as the
Behrend men placed third out of 15 teams, while the women were
second with a dozen women's teams competing. Mt. Union men's team
took the first place trophy for the second straight season.
While on the women's side, California University of Pennsylvania
took home the first place finish.
Senior Bryce Basista ran a solid race finishing in 26:06 for the first place finishing Mt. Union. California's Erin Kling paced the women's race with a finishing time of 23:35. The Behrend Lions had excellent finishes on both the men and women's sides.
The top finishers for the Penn State Behrend women included
Emily Berry (Reno/Rocky Grove) logging a time of 24:40 to finish
sixth overall. Liz Keller (Bradford/Bradford) had strong finish and
was eleventh in 25:38, while freshman Meghan Kronenwetter
(St.Marys/Elk County Catholic) was sixteenth in 25:53.
Kaitlynn Patterson (Erie/Villa Maria) was twenty-first and
Tanisha Wheatley (Saltsburg/Kiski) placed twenty-third in 26:23 and
26:30 respectively.
For the third year in a row the Behrend men finished with six
runners in the top 30. The top finish went to Kevin
Gorny who placed ninth overall in 26:56 against a top
field. Carl Kallgren IV (Erie/McDowell) was twentieth in 27:58,
while three spots behind was Justin Dipenti (Russell/Warren) in
28:12. Steve Monnie (Renfew/Butler), Rob Shrawder (New
Wilmington/West Middlesex), Alex Myers (Oakmont/Riverview) and Andy
Iams (Harrison City/Penn Trafford) finished 24, 25, 26, and
thirtieth.
