Bio

Cheryl Peterson joins the Behrend staff as the assistant volleyball and softball coach in 2010-11. She returns to her alma mater after spending a season as the assistant softball coach at York College.  She helped the Spartans to a 36-9 record and second place in the CAC Championships.  

Peterson was a four-year starter and three-time All-AMCC selection for the Lions softball team from 1999-2003. She left her mark on the program and the record books, ranking in the top 10 in four career categories: third in doubles (36), seventh in batting average (.376), ninth in hits (135) and 10th in singles (98). She also ranks 11th in all-time RBIs (76) and at-bats (359), while being listed 14th in runs (78).  

Peterson, a native of San Diego, Calif., graduated from Behrend with a degree in computer engineering in May 2003. Upon graduation, she participated on a USA Athletes International softball team that traveled to Darwin, Australia. After returning to the states, Peterson spent six years as a software development engineer for Northrop Grumman.

Other coaching experience includes five years as the coach of the ASA youth softball in San Diego. Peterson led a number of squads to regional and state championships including a second-place finish in the 2010 14U Triple Crown World Series.
