Penn State Behrend's Taylor Lotis Named ECAC South Rookie of the Year
Penn State Behrend freshman Taylor Lotis (Jefferson Hills/Thomas Jefferson) has recently been named the Division III ECAC South Rookie of the Year. Lotis was a vital part of the success for the Behrend Lions and Head Coach Roz Fornari.
Lotis blasted onto the scene in her first year in the basketball program and performed like a veteran all year long. She averaged 12.4 ppg to go along with 6.2 rpg. Lotis led the squad in three-point field goals made with 53 from distance and was second in total field goals made with 107. She played bigger than her size all season long as she ripped down a team high 154 rebounds and recorded 12 blocked shots.
The freshman wasted no time adjusting to the next level as Lotis' first collegiate game saw her pour in 22 points, grab seven boards, record four steals and two blocked shots. Lotis led the team in scoring in nine games and in seven games, she led the sqaud in rebounds. In the last two games of the season against Penn State Altoona, Lotis totaled 34 points and 15 rebounds. In addition to this accomplishment, she was also named the AMCC Newcomer of the Year. Lotis has an outstanding future ahead of her and the women's basketball program will look to her to provide leadership for the next couple of years.
The women's basketball team finished the regular season at 12-8 and earned the five seed in the conference tournament. The blue and white's season ended with a 72-63 loss at the hands of Penn State Altoona. The Behrend Lions finished the season with an overall record of 14-11.
