Behrend Women Earn Tough 2-1 Victory Over Wolverines in ECAC First Round
The Penn State Behrend women's soccer team earned a tough 2-1 victory over the Grove City Wolverines at Gannon University's field in the first round of the ECAC South Tournament on Wednesday, November 11.
The blue and white got on the board early behind sophomore Heather Klimuszka's (Rochester, NY/Greece-Athena) goal nine minutes, ten seconds into the first half. She was put in position to score off a nice pass from freshman midfielder Valerie Wagner (Pittsburgh, PA/Montour).
Grove City responded with a Grace Reimen's unassisted goal in the twentieth minute to knot the game at one apiece. As the first half winded down, Behrend freshman Danielle Pelensky (Erie, PA/Harborcreek) scored an unassisted goal at the 43:17 mark that proved to be the game winner. The second 45 minutes of play went scoreless as Grove City put pressure on the blue and white, but the defense held on for the 2-1 win.
Behrend, the AMCC regular season champion after logging a 9-0-1 league mark, improves to 14-3-3, while the Wolverines close out the 2009 season at 11-7-3.
