Women's Soccer Registers Key Conference Win Over Redhawks

On Thursday, October 15, the Behrend women's soccer team registered a key AMCC win, 4-1, over the visiting La Roche Redhawks.

La Roche entered the game with an unblemished mark of 5-0 in league play. Behrend improves to 5-0-1 in the league and 9-2-3 overall and is making a push for the regular-season title with games against Franciscan, Medaille, Mt. Aloysius, and D'Youville remaining.

In the first half, Behrend freshman Meredith Gipson (Murrysville, PA/Frankling Regional) connected off a Valerie Wagner (Pittsburgh, PA/Montour) pass at the 11:01 mark to provide a 1-0 advantage. La Roche tied it up fourteen minutes later, but junior Jaclyn Stottlemyer (Charleroi, PA/Charleroi) responded less than a minute later to give the Behrend Lions a 2-1 lead.

Julia Schroeck (Fairview, PA/Fairview) scored an unassisted goal with 37 second remaining in the first half of play to widen the gap to 3-1 entering the break.

Fifty-seven seconds into the second 45 minutes of play, Wagner took a pass from Gipson to score her team leading fifth goal of 2009. Wagner leads the blue and white with 12 points this season.

Behrend now boasts a home mark of 7-0 in 2009. The blue and white have also captured six of the 12 AMCC Conference Tournament Titles.

Next on the schedule with be a home contest against Franciscan on Saturday, October 17 at 1:00 p.m. on the Behrend Fields. Then the pair of AMCC road games before the blue and white host D'Youville in the regular season finally on Tuesday, October 27.
